Fedor Alexeev

Fedor Alexeev was born into a family of actors in Leningrad in 1952. While studying at the Technological Institute in Moskow he discovered his passion for art and hence devoted 12 years to studying painting. Since 1989 he has been participating in numerous group exhibitions in Russia, Germany and America. He has also been presented in various solo shows in Russia and Japan and his work is widely collected in Russia, Finland and America. Fedor Alexeev is a member of the Painters' Association of Russia and he paints exclusively St. Petersburg scenery. His artistic prosess always starts at drawing the chosen scene and transforming the three dimensional cityscape into the simplest geometrical planes in order to construct a concrete St. Petersburg landscape. Within that prosess colour and colour planes play an essential role. Fedor Alexeev's objective is to find a correlation of colours in his compositions and to give each separate colour its own part in the composition ensemble. "I don't choose colours. I just test their behavior to each other. I do my best to let colours have self-expression" says the artist. Having started creating his own pictorial system he wants to let go of all rules of conceiving, conducting and completing a picture.
