Cristian Lapusan
Cristian Lapusan was born in Romania in 1976. In 1998 he received his Masters degree with the ‘Ioan Andrescu’ Academy of Visual Arts, Cluj, Romania. Lapusan, a member of the Fine Arts Organisation of Romania, has had numerous group exhibitions in Romania and the USA and held his first solo exhibition in 2002 at the Vert Gallery, Piatra-Neamt, Romania. He has been invited to hold artistic residencies at schools in Europe and the USA as well as illustrating children’s books.
Lapusan paints in a smooth photo realistic style mixing figures with symbolic objects in careful, clean compositions that allows the viewer a positive take on humanity. His paintings work in a place where surrealism and pop art meet and all have a story to tell, mainly they look at the relationship between nature and humans, particularly their destructive forces. It is not that he believes people are not justified in their actions, but that they are striving to make a better life. This innovative and original artist has developed a way of working that handles such issues with great subtlety and as such, he lets the paintings speak for themselves and make a connection with the observer, which accounts for why his artworks are so collectable and sell at such an amazing speed.
There is a sense of irony and honesty in Cristian Lapusan’s art; he is a great humanist and what he gives in his works brings hope and cheer to others.
